Various Weyerhaeuser papers and printing techniques were employed in this outstanding aesthetically appealing example of graphic design examining the relationship between printing technology and graphic style.
10. x 10 saddle-stitched softcover book with 24 pages. This volume includes several fold-outs of WPA murals and posters. REMEMBERING THE WPA Production techniques include 200 line-screen separations, four-color process, multilevel blind-emboss, foil stamping, duotones, flat color, dull and gloss varnish, metallic ink, thermography, and die-cutting.
This paper promotion presents an excellent overview of the American Art Scene through the prism of the WPA, and includes examples of Post Office and Courthouse murals, mosaics, periodicals and (of course) the silkscreen posters produced under the auspices of Anthony Velonis. REMEMBERING THE WPA includes work samples by Stuart Davis, Werner Drewes, Norman S. Chamberlain, Byron Browne, Leon Kroll, Jack Rivolta, Chaim Gross (inspired by), August jaegers, Lawrence Tenney, Tom Lea, and Howard Cook.
REMEMBERING THE WPA was anamazing publishing venture. Highly recommended.
