DESIGN OF IKKO TANAKA

Ikko Tanaka

Ikko Tanaka: DESIGN OF IKKO TANAKA. Nara and Tokyo: Nara Prefectural Museum of Art and The Seibu Museum of Art, 1988. First edition. Text in Japanese. A near fine minus soft cover book with thick printed wrappers and minor shelf wear. Interior unmarked and very clean. Out-of-print.

10 x 9.5 soft cover book with 60 pages and 55 illustrations, most in color. Published in conjunction with a Nara Prefectural Museum of Art exhibition of the same name. Tanaka's design projects are represented not only by his justifiably well-known posters, but also by logos, packaging design and book design. Nice little compendium includes a biographical chronology of the artist as well.

From the web site for the Art Director's Club: "Strong, clean, and impactful are the best descriptives you could use to describe Ikko Tanaka's work. They are universal images, honed with a fastidious eye: finding the natural flow of photographs in a book spread, steadying the central point of a corporate symbol so the mind retains every detail, and enriching the typographic and illustrative forces of a poster into a pure, homogeneous form."
