After World War II, Manhattan was the center of concept-driven graphic design -- clean European style coupled with the quick wit and humor of Madison Avenue copy. In 1947 the New York Subways Advertising Company took advantage of this deep talent pool by commissioning leading poster artists to create images extolling the virtues of Subway advertising. History has proven that the Company chose their talent wisely.
