PUBLIMONDIAL Number 13
Alfred Girardclos (director)

Alfred Girardclos (director): PUBLIMONDIAL Number 13 [Subtitled: The Magazine of Graphic Arts and Advertising Technique]. Paris: Arts and Publications, 1948. First edition from 1948. Text in French and English. A good original magazine: cover has one tear on outer edge and spinewear. Cover design by Jean Picart Le Doux.

9.5 x 12.5 perfect-bound magazine with 64 pages of editorial and advertising content. PUBLIMONDIAL was the valiant attempt of the French advertising industry to re-establish its preeminence after the end of World War II. Before the War, ARTS ET METIERS GRAPHIQUE was the acknowledged journal of record for the French Advertising and Publishing Industries. Like its predecessor, each issue of PUBLIMONDIAL included tip-ins, inserts and many other special finishing effects to make each issue a singular aesthetic experience. Highly recommended.

PUBLIMONDIAL focused a lot of its editorial energy on spotlighting the French Poster Industry by spotlighting contemporary artists and presenting many examples of their work. Many unusual examples are reproduced, usually in black and white.
