PRINTING ART QUARTERLY
Volume 68, No. 2, 1938

PRINTING ART QUARTERLY. Chicago: Dartnell, 1938 (volume 68, number 2). First edition. A near-fine oversized book bound with original decorated yellow plastic spiral binder. The laminated cardboard boards have very mild edgewear to tips and scuffing. The original plastic spiral binder is completely intact and uncracked. A superior copy of this easily-abused title.

10 x 13.25 hardcover book with 106 pages printed on a variety of paper stocks. A stellar production that shows the publishing power of Chicago in the mid-thirties. Many examples of Chicago graphic design and photography from 1938, collected here fort he first time.

The highlight of this book (in my opinion) is the 68-page special section entitled DESIGN: THE NEW GRAMMAR OF ADVERTISING that shows the influence of Moholy-Nagy and The New School Of Design (otherwise known as the New Bauhaus) on the Chicago advertising and graphic arts industries before World War Two. Highly recommended.
