STREETWISE Mary Ellen Mark
Mary Ellen Mark: STREETWISE. NYC: Aperture, 1988. Original edition. A
near-fine oversized softcover book in stiff, printed wrappers (remainder
stamp on top page edge). The covers show a bit of wear, as does the tip of
the spine. A superior copy of this title that is rarely found in
collectible condition. Interior unmarked and very clean. Out-of-print.
10 x 11 softcover book with 80 pages and many b/w images of the street
children of Seattle. Introduction by John Irving. Text and photographs
edited by Nancy Baker. From the film Streetwise by Martin Bell, Mary Ellen
Mark, and Cheryl McCall. Considered to be mark's breakthrough book-- quite
uncommon.
Mary Ellen Mark received a B.F.A. in art and art history and M.S. in
photojournalism at the University of Pennsylvania. A member of Magnum, she
is an award-winning photographer, who is dedicated to the profession of
photojournalism and social documentation. Her work has resulted in a number
of books and is held in many major collections.
