From the publisher: "Through a unified effort to achieve a context for their expression, they have created a visual unit -- a book of images. Each has selected from his work, and ordered, a series of photographs to form a wordless statement through the direct visual communication of his medium. And though each section stands as a highly individualized unit, they are bound together by a common understanding of the meaning and potentials of the photographic image."

All three artists are represented in the Museum of Modern Art Print Collection and were exhibited in MoMA's show "The Sense of Abstraction." From a press release for the show: "According to the Directors, the many techniques and devices apparent in the exhibition are not new. What is significant is the fresh surge of interest in using familiar tools of the photographic medium to produce works whose sole function is to delight - or affront - the eye."
