ART AND DESIGN -- PAST AND PRESENT serves as the official PTT-produced Guide Book for the 1992 World Expo in Seville.
This volume includes many rare and unusual examples of work from the PTT archives in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Architcture, Interior Design, Uniforms, Vehicles, Stamps, Signage. etc. This work all shares a common trait: a remarkable adherence to forward thinking.
Jean van Royenıs early adherence to typographic and design excellence set a standard for the PTT for years to come. In the early 1930s, he commissioned Piet Zwart to transform PTTıs in-house design style. This beautiful chapter in the history of graphic design came to ³a brutal conclusion² when van Royen died in 1941 because of his opposition to fascism. Fortunately, van Royenıs design legacy was revived after the war and continues to this day.
