A near fine hardcover book bound in full cloth in a very good dust jacket: jacket missing a couple of small chips along top edge of front panel. Interior unmarked and very clean. The presence of the jacket alone makes this an unusually nice copy of this out-of-print vintage volume. Residential Architecture books with dust jackets from this era are notoriously scarce.

224 pages and 240 b/w photographs and floorplans. Includes an excellent essay that discusses in depth the following topics: the characteristics of the modern house, the architect-designed house, the critical attitude, open planning glass walls, flexibility, materials and finishes, and ornament. Highly recommended.In terms of decor, there is none of that Chippendale jive here-- every residential interior is decked out in full prewar, streamlined glory.
