The Herbert Bayer Issue

Arnold Farber (Editor): PRINT: AMERICA'S GRAPHIC DESIGN MAGAZINE. NYC: Volume 16, Number 3, May/June 1962. A very good original magazine with light wear to cover. This issue of Print was guest-designed by Herbert Bayer and features an original Cover design by Herbert Bayer.

9.25 x 12 perfect-bound magazine with 100 pages of editorial content and advertising. Print was devoted to showcasing the best in American Graphic Design, circa 1962. For this goal, the Publishers used a wide variety of paper stocks and printing styles for each issue. Print in the early 1960s remind me of Herbert Spencer's Typographica, but without the cultural pretensions of the English magazine. Print was meat and potatoes compared to Spencer's elegant souffles.

Contents for this vintage issue of Print magazine include:

  • Where are the Graphic Arts going? Short op-ed pieces by Jay Doblin, Milton Glaser, John Massey, ladislav Sutnar and others.
  • Herbert Bayer: A statement for an individual way of life: multi-page illustrated profile.
  • Features include Top Drawer; Paper and Design; letterhead Designs; materials and methods; letter; and Books in print.
